In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to neglect self-care and relaxation. However, taking time for yourself is essential for mental, emotional, and physical well-being. One of the best ways to treat yourself is by creating a spa day experience right in your own home, using the convenience of your remodeled bathroom. In this blog, we’ll explore how you can transform your bathroom into a luxurious retreat for self-care and relaxation.

Create a Calm Ambiance

The first step to creating a spa-like environment in your bathroom is to set the mood with a calming ambiance. Here’s how:

  1. Lighting: Soft, warm lighting can help create a relaxing atmosphere. Consider using candles or dimmable lights to set the mood.

  3. Scent: Add essential oil diffusers or scented candles with calming scents like lavender, chamomile, or eucalyptus to promote relaxation.
  4. Décor: Incorporate natural elements like plants or bamboo accessories to create a serene environment.

Pamper Yourself with Luxurious Bath Products

Treat yourself to a spa-like experience with high-quality bath products. Here are some must-haves:

  3. Bubble Bath: Indulge in a luxurious bubble bath with fragrant bubbles that cleanse and moisturize your skin.
  4. Bath Oils: Hydrate and nourish your skin with rich bath oils that leave you feeling silky smooth.
  5. Body Scrubs: Gently exfoliate your skin with a body scrub to remove dead skin cells and reveal softer, smoother skin.
  6. Face Masks: Pamper your skin with a rejuvenating face mask that hydrates, tightens, and brightens your complexion.
  7. Robes and Towels: Wrap yourself in plush robes and towels for a cozy and comforting post-bath experience.

Relax and Unwind

Once you’ve created your spa-like atmosphere and gathered your luxurious bath products, it’s time to relax and unwind. Here are some self-care activities to consider:

  1. Meditation: Practice mindfulness and relaxation techniques to calm your mind and reduce stress.
  2. Deep Breathing: Take slow, deep breaths to promote relaxation and reduce tension.
  3. Yoga or Stretching: Incorporate gentle yoga or stretching exercises to release muscle tension and improve flexibility.

A bathroom is an integral and decorative part of the home. A well-accessorized bathroom should be as pleasing and inviting as the rest of the house. Warm light, beautiful tile floors, state-of-the-art showers, deep bathtubs, and sparkling fixtures will bring your bathroom to the next level. Let our professionals at Columbus Bath Design help you create the bathroom of your dreams.

Fixtures

Fixtures such as shower heads and faucets no longer have to be dull and boring. Our customers can choose our oil rubbed bronze shower heads, towel rings, faucets and shower doors. Our faucets can even be single or double handled.

If you and your family are wary of reaching for that bar of soap you’ve put on the rim of the tub only to have it slip out of your grasp, our dishes, shelves, and corner caddies hold soaps and shampoos securely until you’re ready for them. Our shelves also come in different sizes and shapes.

You can also choose from our rainfall showerheads, hand-held showerheads, and showers with body jets that turn to shower into a truly thrilling experience.

Tile

Tile is a staple part of many bathrooms. It is not only beautiful, but it is extremely strong and durable. If it does crack or chip, it is easy to replace. All that’s needed is the batch number to replace a tile with one the exact color and pattern. Tile is also easy to keep clean, especially if it’s glazed. We are pleased to offer and install just the right type of tile to perfect your bathroom.

Bathtubs

Few things are better than a good, long soak in a tub. We offer a wide variety of gorgeous tubs- after all, we aren’t called “Columbus Bath Design” for nothing! Check out our assortment of slipper tubs, soaking tubs and tubs installed on platforms faced with beautiful tile. We even offer updated tub/shower combinations and walk-in-tubs for our older customers.

Showers

Some of our customers want both a tub and a shower. Others don’t like baths, and the tub just takes up space in their bathroom. At Columbus Bath Design, we can accommodate any of these wants. Check out our gallery for the wide variety of showers that we offer for your bathroom remodel. They not only have luxurious tiles, but shelves, special shower heads and jets and transparent or translucent frameless doors.

Vanities

Vanities also don’t need to be utilitarian anymore. Indeed, a beautiful vanity with a gleaming marble top, cut crystal knobs, and paneled doors and drawers can be the focal point of the bathroom.

What You Need to Know About Bathroom Lighting

by Columbus Bath Design |November 2, 2017 |1 Comments | Bathroom Accessories, Bathroom Design, Bathroom Remodeling Tips, Bathroom tips, Making the Decision to Remodel Your Bathroom, Tips for the Home | , , , , , , ,

When doing a remodeling project, you simply can’t overlook the importance of bathroom lighting. It’s a space that you spend a lot of time in, and it needs to be comfortable and well lit. Here’s what you need to know about how to light your bathroom:

Brighten It Up

You want your bathroom to be a functional space, so it has to be bright. That’s why it’s necessary to use both task and ambient lighting. Task lighting should be added around or above the vanity and mirror. This makes it easier to do everyday things like apply makeup and shave. The room has to be brightly lit for these types of tasks.

If space allows, you will also want to have a light mounted above the tub or shower stall. Ideally, there should be a light placed at both ends of the tub to create an even cast of light.

Consider LED Lighting

LED lighting is a great energy saving option. One of the reasons many people have avoided them in the bathroom for years is because they don’t provide the warmest light. However, they’ve been significantly improved over the years. LED lights best used in combination with incandescent bulbs to create the right warmth and coloring in the space.

Avoid These Lighting Mistakes

One of the biggest mistakes that you can make when installing lighting during a remodel is not adding enough of it. Having more lighting is better than having less. Use dimmers to make one lighting fixture multi-functional. This is especially helpful if you’re working with a smaller room or on a tight budget.

Placement of the lights is also important. If you place a fixture directly overhead of where you’ll be standing at the sink and vanity, it can create a harsh, unflattering look. Determine the most practical spots to install lights that also offer the most flattering illumination.

Updating Your Bathroom Without Breaking the Bank

Renovating and updating your home can be a costly and time-consuming project, particularly when it comes to bathroom remodeling. Fortunately, if electrical and plumbing updates are not necessary, there is a virtually limitless number of budget-friendly ideas you can use to transform a dull, drab bathroom and give it a fresh new look. Below are some tips on how to complete an affordable upgrade.

Paint

Although it may seem like an overly simple suggestion, painting the walls with a fresh, trendy color and replacing your shower doors with newer models can go a long way toward updating the look of your bathroom. For an ultramodern appearance, opt for a two-tone paint job that will instantly perk up the room.

Stained and worn out bathtubs can also be painted with special paint. Once this is complete, you can invest in new hardware for the tub, shower and sink. For example, you can switch out gold or brass faucets, which are now outdated, with striking metallic black glaze or bright paint.

Lighting

Install new lighting in the ceiling and over the vanity to instantly modernize this much-used room. However, fluorescent lights should be avoided if possible, as they can be somewhat harsh. Instead, try a natural, soft light in your bathroom.

Mirrors

Even simple things such as hanging new mirrors above the sink or vanity can add a touch of class to essentially any bathroom. Choose a mirror with a stylish look and an interesting frame, or purchase plain mirrors and shop for frames separately to create an entirely unique look.

Tiles

Replacing old, scratched or worn tiles with new, contemporary pieces is a great way to make your bathroom look brand-new.

Additional Tips

Try swapping out venting fans for quieter models to update your powder room, and clear out clutter through the use of stackable drawers and shelves, which are usually not expensive.

When planning an inexpensive remodel, browse through magazines, shop around at home improvement stores and search online for decorating ideas. With a little time and effort, and affordable upgrade for your bathroom can become a reality.

How To Decide When To Upgrade Your Bathroom?

by Columbus Bath Design |September 22, 2017 |3 Comments | Bathroom Design, Bathroom Remodeling, Bathroom Remodeling Tips, Bathroom tips, Full Bathroom Remodel, Making the Decision to Remodel Your Bathroom | , , , , , , ,

One of the most common upgrades that are done to a home is a bathroom remodel. Space is the room where many people relax at the end of a busy day. However, a bathroom can become outdated. Here are some signs that it is time to consider a remodeling project.

Mold is an Issue

When pondering when to remodel, a smart time is when you start to notice mold. If the area around your shower is looking green or black mold may be to blame. If it is a minor case, you will be able to clean the space with bleach. A wise project is to install drywall that resists mold. If mold is a major problem, you should consult with a professional testing and remediation company.

Leaking or Old Fixtures

When fixtures like a shower or toilet leak water, an upgrade is necessary. Today, many units are friendly to the environment and help to save water. Consider a toilet that uses less water per flush or a shower head that sprays less. Besides lowering your monthly bills, you will be doing something that is good for the planet.

Just Want a Change

If it has been years since your last bathroom remodel, you may be sick of looking at the same vanity or paint colors on the walls. These are cosmetic changes that are easy to complete. Paint is very inexpensive, but it can dramatically change the feel in the space. Numerous vanity styles are available. Some can provide necessary extra storage. If this does not fit into your budget, consider swapping your old hardware for something new. This will create a fresh look for a fraction of the cost.

After learning when you should decide to upgrade your bathroom, you may need some remodeling tips. At Columbus Bath Design, we will be happy to assist you throughout all of your projects. Our experts will recommend the best solutions for your needs and budget. When you are ready for a change, let us fulfill your dreams. Decluttering Your Bathroom 101

bathroom decluttering

No matter how clean your bathroom is, clutter simply seems to happen. After the colder winter months, you’re probably wondering how such a nice spa-like retreat can get so messy.

Relax. Decluttering is as simple as taking a day in each of your bathrooms to accomplish spring cleaning. For the most part, you don’t need any fancy accoutrements in any of your bathrooms to accomplish decluttering. What is needed is a sense of purging, of being able to get rid of items you no longer use and not feeling guilty about it. Here is what you need to do to get a wonderfully organized bathroom.

Pitch It. When was the last time you used the vitamins, medication, makeup or anything that may be in your medicine cabinet or drawers? If the item is expired, throw it in the garbage. Similarly, label cosmetics and other consumables that don’t have an expiration date. even if it doesn’t have an expiration date, pitch items that smell or look funny, particularly if you know they are past their prime.

Small Storage Spaces. Organize storage spaces such as drawers or cabinets with dividers or storage bins that will keep similar items with one another. Make sure that storage bins have small compartments that are appropriate for makeup, medicines and other smaller items found in bathrooms. By designating certain areas, whether in a drawer, a cabinet, etc., for items like makeup, medicines and other small items, you’ll minimize time spent in the bathroom and organize your home in the process.

Claim Space Over the Toilet. The area over the toilet is a great place for storage. Many organizational stores have storage units specifically made for placement over toilets. These storage areas are great for items such as extra towels, toilet paper, tissues and other frequently used items.

Clean Up the Vanity. How any times have you seen items strewn across your vanity? Use apothecary jars to organize items like makeup brushes, cotton balls and similar small items. Organizing in this manner will give your bathroom a high-end hotel feel. Save a shelf for knick knacks.

Cleaning Your Bathroom Safely

by Columbus Bath Design |April 9, 2015 |0 Comments | Bathroom Maintenance, Uncategorized | , , ,

onyx33Keeping your bathroom clean with a consistent effort is the best way to keep your remodeled bathroom looking its best.  It’s important to remember that safe use of cleaning products at home is something that you should always keep in mind.  See our list of recommended cleaning products and instructions for your bathroom here.

In the spirit of National Poison Prevention Week March 15-21, remember to always follow these guidelines:

Natural Products Can Still Be Toxic. Natural cleaning products should be used with the same caution as commercial products.  Always use gloves and be sure to keep your cleaning area ventilated.  These precautions are important to take when using any cleaning substance.

Use Mild Products Whenever Possible. Most cleaning can be accomplished using mild products such as vinegar and baking soda.  Only use ammonia and bleach when absolutely necessary.

Always Read The Label. This may sound like a no brainer, but, you should always read the product label and pay attention to words such as “caution,” or “dangerous.”

Some Mixtures Can Be Dangerous.  You should NEVER mix ammonia and bleach together.  This mixture produces toxic gasses.

Childproof Your Cleaning Products.  Be sure to keep all of your cleaning products out of reach for both children and pets.  Even something as simple as a full bucket of water left unattended can be a drowning danger.

Label Homemade Products.  It is always best to keep cleaning products in their original containers.  If you have mixed homemade products, be sure to label them accurately, and always used new, clean, containers for storing homemade products.

Wash Your Hands After Cleaning.  Always be sure to wash your hands after handling and using any cleaning products.

Making Bathroom Remodeling New Year’s Resolutions

by Columbus Bath Design |January 1, 2015 |0 Comments | Bathroom Remodeling, Uncategorized | ,

lux bath blog 1-5With the start of the New Year, many homeowners are making New Year’s resolutions – home and bathroom remodeling projects typically rank high on the list. Taking on a remodel in any room of the home can be overwhelming to think about, but with proper planning, the right materials, and a skilled team, it can go smoothly. Creating a plan well in advance of the start of the remodel will help take the stress out of the process.

Explore Each Element

One of the most exciting aspects to a remodel is getting to select the materials. The right fixtures, flooring, tiles, and other design elements will impact and enhance the space. During the planning stage, think about which elements you desire in the design. For bathrooms, consider the tub and sink style, countertops, and color scheme. If you wish to change the layout of the space, take some measurements before you begin browsing specific items.

Set a Budget

When planning, don’t overlook the budget. Before any work begins, think about how much you are willing to spend to refresh and remodel the space. For bathrooms, you can easily spend on high end materials. It is worthwhile to put money in to the room, as you are likely to get that back with increased home value. Start with a basic budget, and then allow for wiggle room if you end up choosing features that cost a little more than you may have anticipated.

Start the New Year off right with a good plan in place for your next bathroom remodeling project. Breathe new life into your space and give it a face lift by adding fresh new features. By beginning the planning process now, you will save yourself both time and stress once you’re ready to begin the project.

Columbus Bath Design Systems of Ohio works with you from start to finish to not only help select the best options for your needs, but also to take the stress out of the equation.  Contact us today to begin exploring design options.

Preventing Bathroom Mold with Acrylic Wall Systems

by Columbus Bath Design |September 22, 2014 |40 Comments | Bathroom Maintenance, Uncategorized | ,

Mold spores are most likely to develop in warm, damp areas. Unfortunately, the bathroom is often a high-temperature, high-humidity space, making it very susceptible to this issue. Routine use of vented ceiling fans or leaving bathroom doors and windows open after hot baths or showers will moderate temperature and humidity, however, this may not be sufficient for preventing all instances of mold and mildew growth. The good news is that the following tips will make it easy for you to maintain a pristine and mold-free bathroom.

Removing Mold:

Mold is best removed with a disinfecting solution of bleach and water. You can mix one-half cup of bleach in one gallon of water and use this to treat all affected surfaces. For stubborn areas, this solution can be sprayed on and allowed to sit for several minutes before wiping surfaces clean.

The best way to prevent mold and mildew is to remodel your bathroom with Acrylic Wall Systems.  Acrylic Wall Systems are a new innovation in bathroom designs that are easy to clean, relatively low in cost and aesthetically pleasing. Best of all, these surfaces are naturally resistant to mold. Installing Acrylic Wall Systems is a highly effective form of mold prevention, especially when paired with regular efforts to vent the bathroom and use cleaning solutions that include chlorine bleach.  Contact us today to learn about the many benefits of Acrylic Wall Systems, and explore your bathroom remodeling options!
