Preparing Your Bathroom for Back-to-School Success

Preparing your family for back to school can be a stressful endeavor. Getting everyone back on a regular schedule is a daunting task. This can be particularly challenging when everyone needs to get ready to leave at the same time- especially when there is limited bathroom space. Here are several tips on how to prepare your bathroom to keep the back-to-school transition smooth and easy.

Create Storage

Creating dedicated space in the bathroom for each family member minimizes clutter and helps cut down on time used to get ready in the morning. Mornings are crazy enough as it is, but knowing where everything is can help things run efficiently. Utilize extra space in linen closets or under counters to create a cubby for each family member. The use of bins keeps everything in one easily accessible place and clears counters for a neater appearance and easier cleaning.

Make it Shine

To make cleaning a breeze, daily maintenance is the key. Use a suction cup to hang a squeegee in the shower for quick and easy cleanup after each use. This saves time scrubbing mineral deposits and soap scum later. Keep a small bin of cleaning supplies in a cabinet under the vanity for a super fast daily wipe down of counters, sinks, and mirrors. Quick, daily maintenance efforts will save you from time-consuming weekly deep cleans.

Privacy, Please

To accommodate multiple family members sharing one bathroom, adding a water closet for privacy can be a real game changer. Enclosing the toilet assures privacy while multiple family members need to be in the bathroom at once. A vanity area just outside of the bathroom is a great option to clear space for older kids who don’t want to share the bathroom with siblings or parents.

Declutter!

It can be easy to let old products pile up in your bathroom, but taking time to declutter will give you more storage and a better piece of mind. Take everything out of your medicine closet and evaluate. Can some things be thrown away? Can you combine things to save space? Dispose of old razors, shampoo bottles, and lotions that haven’t been used in a while.

Proper storage and organization are key to streamlining the back-to-school routine this fall. Following these tips will help you have the clean, clutter-free, and stylish bathroom of your dreams. And as always, contact us at Columbus Bath Design for any and all of your bathroom needs!

Baskets. Baskets are an ideal way to store various items, such as towels, extra toilet paper rolls, and even cleaning supplies. With a basket, you can leave it out and have it serve as a functional decor item, or you can tuck it away in a linen closet, or underneath the sink, or stick it on a shelf. They’re versatile, and make it easy to have necessary items close at hand.

Drawer Organizers. Simple organizers for vanity drawers are perfect for smaller items, such as cosmetics, hair accessories, and styling tools. Rather than keeping drawers cluttered and full of junk, you can get all of the important items neatly arranged. It will make getting ready for work and school a breeze in the mornings, since everything you need will be in the right spot.

Clean Counters. Take a few minutes each evening to tidy up the counter space on the vanity. Spending a few minutes each night to do this will ensure that that the bathroom stays neat for the next morning.

The morning rush inside of the home on a weekday can be just as hectic as the traffic rush out on the roadways, especially for families with more than one school aged child. These helpful bathroom tips will help make your home more manageable once the school year starts.

Tackle cluttered cabinets and drawers. Cabinets and drawers can quickly become a catch-all for all kinds of things, which makes it more challenging to find exactly what you need. Tackle the clutter by going through and throwing away any old or expired medicines and personal care products. Sort everything that you want to keep into small bins or plastic drawer organizers. If you have more than one drawer and the kids share a bathroom, assign one drawer to each child. This will help kids keep their own items in a convenient spot, and they won’t waste any time trying to find what they need while getting ready for school.

Utilize shelving. If cabinet and drawer space is limited or non-existent, utilize shelving. Shelves are easy to install, and they can provide extra space while allowing you to keep counter tops free of clutter. They can be the perfect place to store extra towels and washcloths, as well as personal care products.

Keep it up. Once you have the cabinets, drawers, counters, and shelves cleaned up and organized, you need to keep it that way. Take a few minutes each day to tidy up the bathroom. Encourage kids to put things back where they belong.

Implementing these smart tips in your home will help keep clutter and confusion at a minimum, especially during the busy morning rush. Having a neat and orderly bathroom will allow kids to get ready quickly. Help your kids start the day off smoothly by maintaining an organized bathroom.
